I'm by no means an expert in this department but I've talked to a few builders about this and the short answer is yes. I've also been told that the LS1 is much more sensitive to milling of the heads and that you can lose significant flow if it is not done properly or you go too far. FWIW

AFR says that too, and I have a hunch that is the reason that people don't see the advertised flow numbers with their LT1/4 heads because they cut them down to 56cc from 72cc castings for the LTx engines unless you ordered them larger.

does this apply to stock heads, so putting bigger valve's and milling them down to 52 cc was not a good thing?

The bigger valves will help a lot, but milling them down might not.

I was always under the impression that milling heads would shroud the bigger valves and hurt air flow. Could be wrong though.

I guess you would have to do it and find out whether the net gains outweigh the losses. It's hard to come to a conclusion just talking about it in general terms.

If people are going to make a post in someone's thread please make it regarding the topic they are discussing or asking for help on. If you would like to talk to someone regarding off topic things please do so via private message or email to them.

Thank you

Ken, what do you mean? The entire thread is about milling heads & flow, and the thread starter was just asking opinions. Seemed like a good, legit discussion to me.

I'm interested in knowing how many cfms you can lose just by milling 4-6cc. Does anyone have any idea?

Re: chamber cc and milling has an effect on flow numbers and port velocity?

Im trying to figure this out...Man i wish i was still in philadelphia or jersey...Had a free machine shop up there and head shop...

Im guessing that The flow loss has to do with cylinder filling and may get better if you angle mill instead of flat mill.Im at a loss on this one myself.

I wish chuck was still around here as im sure he would know...Ive lost his email addy a while back.
