Look in the GM Catalog, there has never been a cast aluminum carb intake for a LS1 engine. I would like one, to run in my '64 GTO, but unless edelbrock makes one it's not going to happen.
BTW the ASA engines use a LS6 intake.
Cool factor for me would be a Al small block with some rare heads like the Splayed Valve or SB2.2 heads in a Rod. That's going to work with carbs and distributors and be really trick at the same time.

Dart Aluminum SB destroked to 350 CID
Billet Internals
Dry Sump Oiling
Arao 32v Heads
Roller Valvetrain, titanium components by Jesel
Hogan's Individual Runner Intake
Electromotive EFI system
Rev that sucker to 10grand and make 800 N/A HP.
As if that isn't enough.....drop compression...slap two huge hairdryers on it and break everything after the engine to finally put the power to the ground.
Why?
Cause its fun.
But seriously......convince him to convert to EFi, and if not, slap a carb on it and just give up some driveablity.

not using efi...........on a late-model LS-block that represents the pinnacle of pushrod "tech."..........tell your pops that like going to the electronics store and wanting one of the new plasma screen t.v.s but with vacuum tubes
Seriously though, tell him if he wants originality and exoticness that going carbuerated will defunct that. Go to a Good Guys Nationals car show and most of those guys are still stuck on carbs. So your dad's ride wont stand out as much. Now go w/ a hot looking F.I. setup and all the other old farts will be fascinated w/ the mojo of the system.
Another consideration for wanting really exotic is something even less conventional. How about a RENNTech prepped Mercedes Titanium 6.7 liter (think thats what renntech strokes them to) V-12 with twin turbos feeding a Roots-type blower. put 2 C02 jetted air-to-air intercoolers after the turbos and then an air-to-water intercooler under the roots blower. Add a propane/nitrous kit and consider it the most exotic thing this side of Cadillac's new 1000hp V-16.
While we're considering the highly insane and unconventional...dare I suggest a 4-rotor Wankel?

Why not look into a big cubed SBC like they are talking about in the current CHP mag? 454 out of SBC block, yes it is aftermarket and would still use the carb like you want. I think Dart and MoTown are working on these.
Now that would be cool in my book.

thanks for the replies and ideas guys. the reason my dad wants to stay with a carb setup is because he wants the blower (671, 871) to be sticking out of the hood. i am pretty sure that this won't work with EFI, but i am possibly wrong cause i have never looked into this kind of setup. Anyone know???

But I agree, if he wants a carb go with something other than the C5R block. The is no significant "wow" factor to a block, at least in my book. Most cars, you can't even see it.

Blower Drive Service has your solution for an EFI setup and a roots style blower.
It's not really cool to have an LS1 race block under all that, in fact its a waste if you ask me. Just get an aluminium SBC block, some AFR heads and be done with it, better yet go with a World Products aluminium 4.600" Bore 11.625" deck big block, a nice set of Brodix BB2X heads, a Hogan's sheet metal intake and a blower and he's set. That would be a much more interesting combo than a carb'd LS1.

You could build a blown 472 CI small block, I never see a small block that big at car shows, much less blown. If you REALLY want exotic and price is no object than twin turbos are a better choice, I have seen twin turbos with carbs before
what about the old aurora engines that were used in indy racing. carbon fiber intakes and stuff on em. i've seen a few of those laying around at shows. it grabbed my attention when i saw 8 carbon fiber throttle bores sticking up. and i thought they used to be 450+hp never really looked em up always out of my price range.
on second thought why not one of the new inline 6 cyl motors if you really are going for something different. theres a race engine they use for baha thats supposed to be 600hp thats 100hp a hole n/a. but since you have the money i would probably look into doing a turbo setup on it. i vote for e.f.i. never too late to learn something new. if you've been to a good guys show blowers out the hood are a dime a dozen so are aluminum blocks and things that might be considered exotic. one last idea but it probably wont fit since space is a problem here but the 03 cobra engine would be a simpler cool swap into a rod. change the pulley and do all of the simple mods the guys do and get almost 500hp. and it'll be blown too. a little dress up work and people will wonder for at least a little bit what kind of engine it is. and it most assuredly is exotic dohc 32 valve supercharged fuel injected basicly the old guys who consider e.f.i. voodoo will take notice big time.
