C5R engine block 427

does anyone know where i can get one of these. i know SLP is selling an engine package using this block, but i want just the block. second does anyone know the dimensions of the block (HxWxD). my father and i are building up a 34 chevy 3 window coupe and are looking to use this 427 block(if it will fit) with a carburated setup, and a 6:71 or 8:71 blower to top it off (maybe a hidden sneaky pete system too). the engine for this car is pretty much up in the air, but my father is old school and would rather stay out of fuel injected setups. will this block work in a carb setup? this is a rather crazy setup but this will be a showcar as soon as it is finished. any information would help out greatly as i would rather use something a little more exotic, than just your basic 383 supercharged package. thanks alot. Chris

Better have a backup plan. Correct me if I'm wrong but a C5R block goes for $6000.

Why not an iron block 6.0? The price is just crazy, if money is no object then it still feels to me like bling bling value, even if the oiling is better.

price is no object, and again the more " exotic" part of it. not trying to go as far as say a ferrari engine. just trying to do something a little more different and orginal. thanks for the responses so far and the link.

Could I interest you in an aluminum dart tall-deck (9.5/4.125/400 mains")?

Even new, one of those would save you better than $2k and in my opinion, has much more potential.

Price is no object and he wants the motor to be exotic, but fuel injection is out of the question?! Something doesn't add up.

If he wants a roots blower on an LSx why not slap the Lingenfelter blower on a built motor instead of wasting time and resources on a more expensive, more difficult, poorer performing and less exotic carb'd setup?

Go here and then pick a dealer. Jones GM is close to me and is usually the lowest priced.

$6,300 for the block from them.

You should look into C5R heads (400+cfm)or as least some REALLY good LS6 heads. 350-360cfm at least. LPE has a good program and I have a guy who can get those kind of numbers from them.

With all of that, a 4.000 or 4.125" stroker you could easily get 700hp from all of that.

Good Luck,

Bret

thanks again guys

again right now options are up in the air, the reason i am looking at the C5R block is due to room constraint inside the engine compartment. we have decided to leave the fenders on the side of the car, so we can't expand the front frame. if the C5R 427 is essientially(sp) an LS1/LS6 engine block bored and stroked then i can make it fit. i can't fit a big block.

this is my father's baby. he is 65 yrs old and grew up driving corvette's, and muscle cars. so HE wants to stay away from fuel injection and computer controls. if it was up to me i might do a rebuilt LS6 with an ATI intercooled blower or twin turbos, something in that line. my dad does not understand the new computer controls, but he can rejet and tweak a carburator all day long.

so we wanted something different, that is lightweight, and can have some ohhh and awww factor and shows. my dad has a lot of money to play with, so he asked my opinion, and i mentioned that chevy released the C5R block, which got him interested. well anyway thanks again guys.

Your going to need alot of custom parts to make it a carburator work with that.

Why not get an aluminum 427 Small block from Dart, and start there. parts would be more availiable.

Peace

If your Dad doesn't like computers, what do you plan to do for an ignition system on a C5-R block? There is no distributor......

Senior citizen, card carrying member NHRA and AARP.... and committed to "computers"......

well the dart 427 small block is a good alternative, and really did not think about the distrubter problem. but the way this car has gone so far anything is possible with it. even a FORD engine !!!!
haha yeah right, i'll check into the dart block. thanks alot guys. oh by the way saw a new silverado SS at the local chevy dealer here. 20" rims, 6.0L pretty sweet looking truck.

No chance in doing a C5-R block if you want a distributor and carb. They don't even have a carb intake for them.

I would really look into a GM, Dart, World, Brodix aluminum block if you want to go that route. It's just $5,000 to save 100 pounds with the block. You better spend $20K on something like this at least or the AL block is just a waste.

i think a blown 427 c5r block would have HUGE 'cool' factor which apparently is what he's going for

and i am 90% sure there are carb manifolds for ls1/ls6 in the gm catalogue
