Just an opinion, when I look at the LT1 intake the runner it cannot be much of a restriction, it’s short and bigger in cross section than the push rod pinch. The problem is the plenum, it's too small and the throttle body is poorly located.

The actual intake performance in real life is worse than the flow numbers indicate because the air distribution with the engine running at RPM is very poor. Add a good head and a stroker crank and the problem worsens, it becomes necessary to adjust air/fuel for each cylinder.

There are actually 2 problems with the runners. The entrance has very small radii, so there are losses. Sort of like flowing a head without a radiused entrance. Secondly, the roof was lowered by something like .250" in order to get the injector as low as possible. I was able to raise the roofs on my LT4 intake by .100" without welding. Some have welded and raised them as much as .200" total.

Mike, I familiar with raising the runner roof, is there something you do to improve the runner entrance radius?

You ever get to No Problem Raceway?

On the one that I saw that was extensively worked, the top was cut off of it to access the runner entrances. A radius can be cut where it needs to be except between the siamese runners, where ~3/8" bar stock was welded in.

Yep, that's the last place I was kicked out of.

Thanks for the tip, in some cases I cut the top off, I'll give it a try.

I'm presently working an LT1 intake for the 65 Vette that runs at No Problem. He's stuck at 10.0s, I'm thinking a better intake could dip him into the 9s. We will try it out before he replaces the heads for AFRs.

What could you have done to get kicked out!

After the most recent round of modifications (more cubes, advance the cam, lower the boost, new tighter converter, slightly more gear, MT radials, skinnies) I ran a 9.92 at 146 right off the trailer. . . without a neckbrace, full cage, license, etc. . . I told them that I thought there wouldn't be a problem. Guess it's false advertising. . .

With a 9.92 they normally just say tone it down a bit to 10.0; the 146 MPH is likely what turned them off.
