Why not go to websites like BMR, Spohn, Global West, etc. and see what they use:

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">BMR control arms completely outperform the weak, factory, stamped metal arms and soft OEM rubber bushings. Boxed control arms feature a 1-1/2" x 3" boxed steel construction while the tubular control arms use either the standard 1-5/8" x .120 wall tubing or the TIG welded, chrome moly 1-5/8" x .083" wall version.

Well id say at least .083 wall mild steel..Mild steel because its easy to weld..Crhomemoly needs a tig welder and they need skill to use..Mig welding mild steel is very easy with a steady hand..Bushings are harder to find..They arent avail easy nor is the tubeing that will fit them easy..Most diameters that ive purchased wound up being too big or small to fit with a mild press in..Sperical rod ends are easy to find but expensive..They wear very fast on a street car in my experences..Without going buckwild you could box your stock parts with plate steel and poly bushings..

To make lca's and pan bars right you need to build a jig thats right on the money, factoring in the varyations for production of the car manufactures...Food for thought..

Case in point the subframes i make for FC mazdas with SBC's took a while for me to make and cost more than buying one already avail..In that case the avail stuff is junk but in your case your better off leaving it to a pro..Im going by the fact that your actually asking the question above and not denounceing your skills as a gearhead..Hope this helps.

I made mine and I machined the bushings out of UHMD ( ultra high meleculiar Delrin). The bushings were very hard, made the ride a little rough but work really good.
