Aluminum Dash

Well I don't know what forum to post this in cuz its not really advanced tech but its something only real drag racers typically know so it's not really something for the Appearance section either...

I'm trying to find someone who makes an aluminum dash similar to this:

http://drag.race-cars.com/carsales/c...67830167pg.jpg

I emailed Alston since it appears to be one of theirs but I don't see it on their website. I know Jegs have a dash available but it's got a stupid lookin indentation in the middle, most likely for strength, but id prefer a flat piece... I don't have the equipment to bend aluminum that large either so id like to find a proven solution rather than screwing around making my own. Original thought was stock dash pad + make my own aluminum face panel, but getting everything to fit in around the cage and have the space I want isn't exciting me.

Try a local racecar fabricator.

Maybe Takash Race Craft in Winter Park?

They sell a 4th gen dash (see bottom of page) that looks almost identical to VFN's dash, but these are both fiberglass. Still worth asking about.

This may be what you're looking for:

Covans's Classic

They also sell the panel without instruments installed.

You might also want to try posting this on the "Drag Racing" forum, if you haven't already. I think there are a few people there who don't also post on Advanced Tech.

Hi Nitro. The dash in that picture is one that Alston made back in the late 80's- early 90's until they went out of business. When they started back in business they didn't offer it anymore. My car had one just like in the picture. I wanted to replace/relocate my gauges, but I loved that dash and was unable to get one like it from Alston or any of the other chassis shops. A guy at Chassis Engineering told me any decent sheet metal shop could make one just like it. It just wouldn't have the Alston logo on it, which didn't matter to me. He was right. I took it to a local shop and he had one made in less than 30 minutes. I would get some measurements on width and take that picture with you to some local shops.

Actually, if you check-out Covan's site you'll see they make those for 1st, 2nd and 3rd-generation Camaro's (as well as '62 -67 Dueces and '67 - 72 trucks).
