Ah.... the ol double engine trick.

Didn't someone do that back in the early 60's? I'm thinking double hemi here but drawing some blanks......... a mind is a terrible thing to lose.

edit: Nevermind... thinking Mickey Thompson here... don't think there's too much MT didn't try at one time or another.

Whoa! Even one 426 Hemi would be a beast of an engine! Anyone ever considered that swap?!

Now this was more like 331 or 392 hemi days... pre '64, probably around 60-62, before the big elephant came along.

Packaging two hemis in a car would be quite a feat and nothing I'd care to drive.

SHHH i'm the only one who can fit 700 inches of mouse in a car

i've seen two blown bbc's in a stretched 76 or so corvette. the cranks werent fused though one drove the front one drove the back. it was one of the wildest and most useless things i've ever seen. the days of pro show they were pretty alright... pretty damn useless. thankfully those days are done and now people like to drive their iron miles a year, instead of 6 feet every month or two on and off the trailer.

on another note i thought it was don garlets who strapped two hemi's together on one of his drag cars. but mickey did try everything, right along with clay smith. we need more guys like them today to think outside the box. i know we still have some but i feel like the people who truly understand engines are getting fewer by the day.

It’s been done a few times, but I think that the best known is the Hairy Hurst Olds… with 2 toronodo drivetrains, one at each end. There were a couple of them made, downright frightening to drive and I believe that all the originals were wrecked at the track (didn’t run that fast either, I believe in the 10’s)

Thumbs up

That's right, Hurst did build a couple of those cars. Think it was the mid-60's.

And your right, weren't too fast either.... mostly for show.

i wanna thank everyone for putting in their ideas and comments. i appreciate that. but i wanna stick with the "theme" of the old 69 zl1 camaro. i know over the past 30 years there has been alot of improvement in heads, cams and so on but that engine in 69 was a beast of an engine with the technology then. i wanna make this engine as close as possible to the one in 69. id like to find an original one but i have a feeling its gonna be a lil hard. ive done some research on the drivetrain for the 69 zl1 and most ran the th400 and the munchie m21 4 speed. i am gonna go with the m21 4 speed. im thinking about taking out my center console and just having nothing but the shifter on the floor, but i havent decided yet, any ideas on that are welcome. since i wont be putting my airconditioning back in, im thinking about putting the oil guage, water temp, and volte guage where my air and heat control ***** are. im pretty sure they will fit. i know i want the cowl hood but im still worried about whether the engine can sit far enough foward so the air filter assembly can sit in front of the dash. it will be too tall to fit underneath of it. plus if it could fit under the dash, the cowl hood would not be functional. as soon as i get the rest of the money and find the parts needed i will keep you guys posted on my progress. im looking at somewhere around september or october before i actually start ripping stuff out of my car.

vc,

Did you check out the pics I posted links to?

One of those is running a 4bbl throttle body (It's the ZL1 concept car John Moss built). It's also running an air-cleaner, which is quite visible in the pic. That car is running a "big block" hood. I'm thinking "DMC" or one of those companies makes a hood real similar. Either way.... that should give you some idea of the clearance you'll need.

I like your concept. Keep at it, and be true to your vision.

As for wheels, check on www.wheelvintiques.com for Billet Rallye wheels which, if powder coated look like the old steelies, but are aluminum, in 17 and 18 in sizes to fit your car. Check page 24 of 44 on their .pdf catalog. Dog dishes would be nice on them.

If you plan to drive a lot, consider a different transmission from the M-21. Hey, a T56 with a 4-speed **** wouldn't be too out of line. Just don't use 5 and 6 when you are showing off! Only you'll know 5 and 6 are there.

Good luck!

You might want to check out www.yenko.net for info on the ZL1 motors. There actually several owners on that board.

Might help.
