Wow those are some wise words.

I dont know how many times I look over in the shop at my 70 GTO in 1 million peices waiting for the cash for the cage and framework and wish I could drive it!!!

Well,

It's not so much that I'm back at square one it's just that. It seems like a deadend. But I'm pretty sure I'm just gonna go with a 350 instead of a 305 simply because parts wise that's where the real stuff is. One of the major things holding me back on this one is the simple fact that my car is a V6 instead of a V8. If it was a Iroc or a TA this would be a alot easier because 90% of everything I need is already there. I mean lets face it. JUST putting a turbo or two onto a F-car is not big deal. But putting a turbo or two on a F-car that already has a *** load of work a head of it is a WHOLE nother story. But you know you get what you pay for and around here a cheap V8 F-car that hasn't been beatin so bad it bleeds is no easy task....none at all ! But I'm willing to do it because as far as the turbo stuff goes, it's taken care of. It's the actual building of the motor and tranny that's gonna kill me. But you know with performance comes cost...and that's just how it is !

I have a thought, wouldnt the extra cubes make the same turbos spool up quicker?

Probably not so you'd notice unless you were making lots more power. It's the volume of exhaust gas that spins the turbo. More power = more exhaust gas. That's why it's difficult to build up boost free reving in neutral or clutch in; no load, not much power no matter what the revs.

Of course, the 350 WILL produce more power, so the turbos and the car should accelerate faster. Throttle-off to throttle-on lag (like on a slow corner on a road course) probably won't be a lot different.

I'm not sure anymore now....After hearing you guys rant for so long. I know it will be a bit pricey, but at the same time I love BOOST !!! I wish I had a alreayd v8 car that would make alot of this SOOOOO much eaiser but you get what you get,you know ? So I dunno if this adds up to be to much I'm prolly just gonna build a REALLY high horsepower 350. My goal is 600 PERIOD ! Just that I wanted to do it without loosing alot of gas mileage wich I know you can do with a turbo car.Unlike something camed, stroked, and well bored......

Is it the price of the shortblock or the fact that youneed the conversion peices?

I'm asking because any v8 third gen can donate its peices to you cause, scour the junk yards for the K member and tranny crossmember that you need. Not that it helps (I'm in Oklahoma) but my freinds son is selling his 80 something TBI firebird for like 400$, you could take the parts from a car liek that and put them on yours, the K members are a bolt in affair , and the tranny crossmemeber is just drill and weld (then bolt....lol), Of course about any 3rd gen will need a rear end for what youre wanting to do.

Wow,sounds like alot of work but in that case if I MUST do all that I;ll prolly end updriving the donor unless it's not a drivable car. Then it's well onword with all the cutting,welding,etc.....
