305 or 350 !!!
So I'm thinking of swapping a new motor into my V6 after I get the body work in order. Ok,so I KNOW I'm swapping in a new motor but that's besides the point ! lol, anyway so here's the setup I'm going for....I'm going after a turbo or twin turbo(most likely a junkyard twin). And I was thinking a 305 instead of a 350. Simply cause they are alot alike in alot of ways just that the 305 has well less displacement and NO bottom end/low end power in anyway shape or form. But I figured since I was going to slap a turbo on in would it just be cheaper to build up a 305 and slap a nice cam, heads ,with the turbo I'm gonna use instead or spending the extra money for a 350. I'm trying to make this build as cheap as possible for my bird. but I need some input from the experts to see what you guys think. So any input will be GREATLY appriciated !

The SBC has enough design flaws as is, and the 305 is among the worst SBCs ever made. Unless you have something to prove or are limited by a class, it's a terrible idea.
To back up the other post, go with a 350. The 305 pretty much sucks. The heads are less than sorry, the bore is only around 3.75 (i forget the exact number) and they probably use different journal diameters so nice forged parts or even aftermarket cast parts will be harder to come by. Spend the extra couple hundred dollars and get a 350.
Heck if you need a crank I have a brand new 2 piece 350 4340 eagle crank for sell pretty cheap.

305 and 350 stroke and journals are the same. Production cranks are counterweighted slghtly differently.
Yeah, 305 isn't a good idea.

Just a data point for ya':
305, TFS heads, ZZ3 cam (208/221), TBI, Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock headers: 14.20 @ 96 mph
350, same heads, cam, intake, injection, headers: 13.30 @ 105 mph
Yes, it picked up almost a full second and 9 mph with not other changes than going from a 305 to a 350.

How much over $10-$15,000 is your budget for this swap? If you are under $5K, build a nice 355, or for a bit more, a budget (never cheap) 383. IMO, better to have a budget runner, than an exotic turbo'd 1/3 done garage princess.
If you are now back to square one, reread this thread. Others have posted some good advice. If you've already made up your mind to turbo a 305, have at it, and good luck.
My $.02.
