ZZ4, lt-4 hot cam users help

I bought a vortec TPI base and am going to get a set of upgraded vortec castings to sit on my 1992 L-98. While the top end is off the car I want to put in a new cam. I was thinking either the ZZ4 or HOT cam. I have never driven a TPI car with a larger than stock cam and want to know the drivability issues and other experiences involved. What will my car idle at? Assuming Larger runners/TB and everything ported is teh HOT cam too big? I will be driving the car daily and racing it most weekends, I want to hit 12.9 with all the normal bolt-ons but dont want a car that won't idle and be mismatched in general.

By the way, the car has a T-56 and I will be burning a custom Prom.

So everyone with a L-98 and a big cam, what are your experiences?

These are the heads I am going to use pro topline , Does anybody have a link to better/cheaper heads?

You'll be fine with the Hot Cam, I'm running the hot cam with the Edelbrock 170cc heads and 58cc chambers and using a stock '88 corvette prom for the ecm. The idle is relatively stable and has just a little lope to it. It's a nice cam for the street/strip and the power band is spread out very nicely on it.

Thanks alot for the help. Do you think the cam could also work with a SD setup for a short time until I get the Prom sorted out? Do you have any times or dynos with your car? THanks.

I couldn't tell you how it would run with SD but i'm assuming your idle may be a little erratic (low). I am using a MAF setup. With the heads, cam, 3:73 gears, edelbrock shorty headers, it runs around 13.3-13.4 in the 1/4. I recently added a holley stealth ram but don't know the results until next spring but it does pull very well with the hot cam in it, you can actually feel it in the seat of your pants.....

The HOT cam will require a custom prom, at least it did in my son's car (91 Z28). With the ZZ4 cam and my Vortec heads the idle was fine, it didnt need much help.
