Question White buildup on underside of Cap....

I have had this happen a few times. When I change out the cap/rotor on my car, I have white crap built up on the underside of my cap on the ignition "points". What causes this and why is this happening prematurely?

I figured it is about time for new cap/rotor and plugs (based on decreased performance) and I have a feeling that I'll see the dreaded white build up again.

BTW when I first bought my car and changed the cap/rotor it had that white build up and my car seemed alot more responsive after putting the new cap/rotor on.

It's most likely just corrosion. How many miles are you putting on the car between cap/rotor changes?

I want to say the last time I changed it I probably had 8k or less on the cap/rotor.

I probably have around 15-20k on the one on there now because I did a ton of driving for my job back in '04. I'm gonna pull it this week probably and see what it lookes like. If it looks like the previous ones, I'll snap a pic and post it.
