Question When is descreening your MAF a good idea?

I have a 88 GTA with the 305 TPI, i have an SLP CAI with the stock throttle body, would descreening my MAF be a good idea or a bad one? Thanks

It's a good idea to do it just before you are expecting your best track times If you are worried about the wire element being injured with debris, just remove the screen behind the wire. One screen flows a lot bettr than 2 screens! I used Needle-nosed pliers myself. goodluck

NEVER a good idea to descreen your MAF. A Third Generation Car MYTH. Or if you want to learn the hard way "Do it" and pay for a new one when a Code 33 keeps showing up.

I can't see how removing the rear screen would cause a problem. But I would leave the front one alone.

I did it on both of my irocs, i never had any problems. Just be careful and not hit anything inside the maf and you will have nothing to worry about.

It can help you but there are possible problems. Here are a couple articles that explain the pros and cons:

My $.02-

I've personally de-screened both sides of the MAF on my car as well as about 4 or 5 other cars and not one of them seen any adverese affects.

One of the problems, especially on Firebirds is that the screens in the MAF straighten out the airflow after a bend in the inlet track. The firebirds have the bend right before the MAF, so the it does create a turbulence problem.

On the Camaros and Vettes there are no bends to worry about so I don;t ever have any problems.
