Wheel bearing

Any speed over 30mph and I hear a moan comming from the front end of my car, I popped the tranny in neutral and the rpms dropped so I know it's not motor related. Is there any way to be 100% that it's the wheel bearing? Also how do you change these things? Common garage tools do the job? Any how-to's on the net?

thanks

More info is needed, and a few other things to check first. Did the moan start all of a sudden? Does the front end pull to one side or the other? Any severe impacts to the front wheels? have you CAREFULLY inspected the front tires? You could be suffering from a separation in the tire, the alignment could have taken a whack, a strut could be toast, causing camber to go wrong, and a few other things.
The only special tools to changing a wheel bearing is a torque wrench that reads in inch pounds.
If I can be of any more help, post it here, or e-mail me.

thanks for the reply buddy.
The moan was audible earlier, but much more faint. It gets louder when I make a right turn and disappears when I make a left turn(what does that mean?). I have not checked my tires, I was pretty certain it was the wheel bearing but I'm sure the psi in my tires are lower then then should be.

It probably is a bearing. When it gets louder turning a certain direction, it means the bearing getting the added weight is speaking up. Sounds like the left bearing is the place to start checking. But do check stuff like tires first.

If your going to replace one side, you might as well replace the other side while your at it. They are fairly inexpensive.
