What are my chances?
A conv CamaroZ28 with a 355 tpi, heddman headers, 58mm tb, 3.73 gears, open 2 1/4 inch exhaust, gutted air boxes against my ride, check out my sig. Don't know if he's bluffing about the 355. Eigth VIN # is F. What are my chances, about to install 3.45 gear and port plenum.

the race would be close in a way. If you port your plenum and port it alot you MIGHT have a chance. The more the better, but you also have a 305. A 355 is a 350 bored .30 over. Nothing more then an overhaul. I think hes got you beet though. You have a 305 with the same bolt ons he hast to his 355. Plus you have all that stereo equipment witch adds weight. He also has a convertable witch adds weight to his car to but im not sure man, like i said it would be close but i think he will take you.

If he really has a 355. Then chances are he's probably got a nice cam and maybe head work. Cause since you said, his car came from the factory with an LB9. Now we're talking engine swap. And why would someone go to the trouble without making it pack a punch?

Don't race for money. Your 305 may run with a L98 without your system and his 355 would beat an L98(assuming the norm). His 355 will be slow if he has a bone stock TPI on it, but still faster than yours.

So after I install my suspension parts- shocks, struts, poly bushing kit, ported plenum, hypertech chip,fresh tune up, no stereo equipment and 3.42 gears...would I fair pretty well.

Not counting the stero equipment convertible and coupe Camaro or alike weigh vertually the same. Convertibles were compact and they didn't have the hatch or the glass in the rear. Go over to Thirdgen.org and watch that motor week movie from 86. Even in there the talk about the similar weights.. I wouldn't race for money.. He's got you beat.
