What does the ERS mean?
What does the ERS mean?
Extended Range Sound or whatever the badge is on my dash. I haven't had the car for a long, and i havent had a stereo in it, i have no deck yet. Im just wondering how many speakers this thing has, i haven't gotten the door panels off yet so i haven't seen if there are any under there. I also heard some of these cars might have Bose? is that right?
Re: What does the ERS mean?
So 2 in the dash, now either 2 in the door panels or in the back... either way, would it take much work to put 2 more speakers in either empty section?
Re: What does the ERS mean?
there are 2 4x6's under the dashpad and 2 6x9's in the A-pillar(not sure which name you use for them) at about head level beside the rear passenger seats. It doesnt really take much work to make more speakers fit in the car,it's just a mater of making it look clean and like they were supposed to be there. Now subs on the other hand.they are easy to put in the rear "trunk" that we have.
Re: What does the ERS mean?
Im not new to the whole stereo system thing... I had 2 12's, rockford mono amp for them, 4 way infinity amp for my infinity kappas up front and in back, and decent deck... in my 88 beretta I sold as part of a trade in for this camaro... I was just wondering if there was enough room to work with around the door panels to put some speakers in there.

Re: What does the ERS mean?
i dont know anything about ers specifically, but there are 2 speakers in the "kick panels" under the dash, in front of the doors, and typically two speakers in the b pillar, (pillars usually go in order front to back, a b c etc)
some cars did come with an optional bose system
my car has this system, though torn apart by the previous owner
its an 87 iroc, it has two kick panel speakers and two speakers on the trunk lid thingie, i dont know if it has two speakers in the b-pillar because my car came with missing b-pillar trim and roof trim

Re: What does the ERS mean?
"Extended Range Sound", a Delco/Bose co-venture, but I can't remember all of the specific pieces. All I remember is it had a 5-band equalizer and the 4 standard location speakers, don't remember if they were 2- way, 3-way or 4-ways etc...

My 84 H.O. came with the Extended Range Sound package. It was the top of the line for the Camaro in '84. Only 4 speakers: 2 in the dash-2 in the B-pillars. As far as later years go, I don't know if they came with kick-panel speakers or were Bose related. In any event, a modern $125 Crutchfield special and some Radio Shack speakers would blow away the ERS option of '84 IMHO.

Re: What does the ERS mean?
p.s. there never were speakers in the doors because of the window motor clearance.. thats where the kick panels come in..just check your clearences before you start cutting into your door...
Re: What does the ERS mean?
The ERS basically means you got a tape deck and 4 speakers, as opposed to just radio and 2 speakers.
4x6 in the dash, and 6x9 in the sail panels (next to rear seats).
