What could I expect

What sort of HP could I expect to get out of a '91 formula with complete exhaust, new cam (maybe ZZ4, or ZZ9), SLP cold air induction, and ported and polished heads. Thanks in advance.

305 right? I'd say a solid 280@ the crank.

It's a 350, also I'm not sure about what sort of cam to use, if anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it. Also I've heard that the stock heads are pretty good and if I were to port and polish them, I'd be good to go, but wouldn't an aftermarket set be better?

Ok heres your thing. If you can get your heads machined for a GOOD price, then yes go for it. Yes, the stock heads are pretty decent for machining, but when it comes down to it if you can't get it for CHEAP, your better off spending a few bucks more and getting new heads all together. The reason I had head-work done to my car instead of buying new heads is because I have a few friends in teh business that hooked me up for a GOOD price.

And with a 350 and those mods, I would have to say 345 crank hp, give or take 20hp. Get a BETTER cam (call up Comp Cams, Isky Cams, Crane Cams, etc..) and get either a custom cam or ask a Rep what he recomends. That's the best way to do it. I dont buy this universal ZZ4/LT1 cam bull****.

Re: What could I expect

Does anyone know the compression of the 350 with ported and polished heads? The reason I ask is I recently rode in my friends s/c cobra and it was sweet. And if the compression was low enough I was thinking of supercharging the motor.

Re: What could I expect

What kind of pistons, domed, flat top? Are those 58 or 64cc heads. Please don't say stock pistons. If you supercharge you'll want a forged crank, good aftermarket pistons, and I agree with 85 305 get a real cam, I really like Lunati. If you want to build a powerful motor the first thing you need to do is build it strong. You can put nos and superchargers on stock motors, but you are going to throw a rod, twist the crank, sh*t a piston. If you spend money on a motor make sure it lasts. Also remember you have a Unibody car, make sure it can take the power. I saw a camaro come into the dealership the other day, that had the T-tops broken and the whole car was twisted, you would have thought it rolled, but it was actually from a guy putting 450hp to the tires with 12in wide tires and traction bars. He had a 3500 rpm stall converter, he held the brake hit the gas let go of the brake, the tires didn't spin, instead the car jumped into the air a twisted like an aluminum can.

Re: What could I expect

I don't have any of this yet, the car is all stock as of right now. I'm more or less planning what I want to do. I plan on doing all this work later. I am going to get forged pistons, forged crankshaft, cam, complete exhaust, cold air intake, and 64cc heads. Do you reccommend any specific brands or specific companies to go through? That is what I'm asking, along with an estimate on the gains I can expect to get.

**Also I plan on doing suspension work to help get the power to the ground. Also I plan on stiffining up the chassis with some weld-on SFC. What other ways do you suggest to strengthen up the chassis, sort of a cage?

Re: What could I expect

I had a 350 engine previously with L98 aluminum heads, SLP 1 5/8" headers, ZZ4 cam, and stock ported TPI intake, T5 trans, and it made 278 RWHP and 380 RWTQ. With the iron heads I would expect a little less, like 265 RWHP.
