what is the deal with the yellow/red? is the yellow just a warning that red is coming? or does it mean something.

Re: What is the correct redline for a 1988 Iroc 305TPI???

redline is 5000 on a 305 auto and 5500 on a 350 auto and a 305 stick
(maf cars for sure not sure about MAP)

in MAF cars 350 and 305 Stick got the same cam,

305 auto got a smaller cam because they didn't have the torque to keep the motor from stalling in drive at an idle, they needed a cam with less lump,

that why 89 305 stick has 220hp vs 195hp in an 89 305 auto

When you see oil spraying up on the windshield, you've redlined it.

The 5 spd and the Auto TPI 305s had different redline due to different cams.

Mine's Canadian, redlines at 7500, for once the metric system works!

j/k!

Seriously, though - if we're talking a stock 305 and you haven't shown them your tailights at 5k, 6 or 7k is a waste of time, and you're liable to end up riding home in the passenger seat of a wrecker.

The 5500 RPM redline tachometer was used on all 305 CID (5.0L) Tuned Port Injection engine (LB9) equipped IROC-Zs with manual tranmissions.
