Well, in a 350 TPI yes it can be done; I dunno about *tbi* or a 305. I would think you would loose a LOT of power by sticking a 350 cam in your 305.

Actually, putting an LT1 (or even an LT4) cam is a pretty common cam swap for 305 TBIs, and it works great. All you really have to do is grind down the dowel pin and install it just like any other cam swap. Although, like any modifying any other FI setup, the computer will need to be tuned to run at it's best.

^How do you not loose power for going from a cam designed on a larger engine?

Re: What cam for a 89 RS camaro 5.0 TBI

It's not a very aggressive cam. Duration around 200-205* @050, lift in the low .400 range, nice wide LSA to preserve a smooth idle and keep the ECM happy.

Compared to the original TBI cam it's a fire-breather, but in the grand scheme of things it's still really mild. That's why it works well in the 305 TBI motors as a mild performance cam.

Cams are designed more to work with power curves than displacement. Look in any cam catalog at SBC cams - they are listed as being used for 265ci-400ci small blocks.

Now that the weather is nice again, I'm on a final big push to get my car out of the driveway, so less time spent on the boards. I've also been busy with the planning stages for the East Coast Nat's, the event my club (NJFBOA) is putting on this August at Island Dragway.

I'm still around don't worry, and you can always leave me messages on AIM.

the lt1 cam is nice however the lt4 is better due to the 115* lobe sep makes more power than the 116-118 cams and tuning on this cam is minor(tbichips etc.)this cam also gets the benefit of 1.6 rockers as well.....
