What is the best year for the 3rd gen?

Another question about 3rd gens., what are the best years? From what year to what year, reliability, power, and just overall. I don't want a carburated one and I was rhinking 88-92. Sound right? Definetly looking for a 350.

87 was the first year of the L98 engine. So basicly you are looking for something that is 87-92

1989 or 90-92 are the best
1989
Pros....most recent year to come with the stronger 9 bolt rear end however if you plan to swap rear end gears the 9 bolt gears are a lot more expensive.

1990-92 are very similar they have the 10 bolt which isnt as strong but will hold until i think its around 300 hp on an unbuilt one 400 on a built up one. The gears for the 10 bolt are a LOT cheaper.

I bought a 1990 i would have prefered the stronger 9 bolt but the car i found was too nice and too good of a deal to pass up. I dont like the 91-92 as much just because im not a fan of the ground effects on them.

Hope that helped a bit

Thanks again, I'm getting a 3rd gen because I've already had an Lt1 4th gen and I already did that. I want to keep this car forever and then next year get an LS1 after I buy my house. These cars seem to be holding thier value pretty good too.

for the irocs 88-90 z28's 91-92, all years have options for the 350 L98 B2L option w/ 9 or 10 bolt rears. good luck!

Personally I like the 87 IROC-Z's the best. They had the 3rd brake light in the spoiler, the 85-87 IROC Wheels (which look better IMHO) The "IROC-Z" badge in the front of the door, and I like the 80's guage/steering wheel/dash setup better. The later 3rd gens rounded all the edges that were previously squared. I like th 87 and so that's what I bought.

89 V6, but I'm biased

I would go with any year 350. But I also like MAF cars. And 88-up cars had serpentine belts.
