Weight of a stripped down 3rd gen? (race ready)

I'm thinking about finding a cheap camaro (87-92) with or without an engine, and depending what I find, either rebuild the 350 in it or swap in a ZZ4 crate or something like that. Then I'll want to completely strip the car down to the bare essentials...no interior, no dash (build a custom aluminum one), no side windows, and no emissions, a/c, heater, etc. But I'll also want to add a cage. How much could you get one to weigh doing that? I'm guessing you could get under 3000 lbs.

What I'm wanting is a light, powerful, good handling 3rd gen that is pretty well race ready and cheap to maintain (for example going back to a carb).

Does anybody have anything like this or know of any websites that could help me out?

Thanks,
Josh

If I were you I would look for an 82-84 car. They weigh less and most came with a carb already, so thats less work down the road. I have an 82 Camaro, and it weighs 3050 pounds with all interior plastics, a steel hood, steel heads, a full size starter and all carpets.

I have done the following for weight conservation:
Weld Pro Star Wheels
Removed Power Steering
Removed all A/C Components
Removed All smog
Removed ECU and harness
Aluminum intake
Summit racing seats (plastic)

I can't think of everything I have done right now, but thats most of it.

Hey guys-quick question. Have any of you weighed your car already? I have a 1992 ws-6 Trans Am, all power options no t-tops and it weighs 3140! Its not a mistake either, i have the print out from the track scales, the car is 100% stock as far as weight goes, no gutted interior or anything. The only thing thats different is the manifolds are ditched for the TES headers. Does this sound reasonable? Thanks

Wow that's light...you might want to go back and make sure the scales are calibrated...If so that's one light F-body

Boring a motor solely for more displacement isnt common practice. Did you mean stroking the motor?

Wow...So you would shorten the life of an engine (by taking away the possiblity that it could be rebuilt) By years just for 600 Cubes...when it doesn't even make that much more HP per dollar?? I mean the name of the game is HP per dollar, getting every foot pound you can on your budget, whether it be thousands or hundreds.

id rather have loose life time of an engine (cause we all know built 600 cubes used for drag racing last 100,000 miles ) then use some run of the mill 350.

my whole point before u got all bent out of shape was y do all this work and just put a 350 in there.. put a big block in there.
