Question Want to buy a 1988 Trans Am GTA with a 305...Have a question

Hi guys,

I know its not a 350, but is this car going to be ridiculously slow? Its a super nice car, its just that it has a 305. Thanks

Is it a 5 speed or auto? TPI or TBI? A 5 speed LB9 is very respectable. Even an auto LB9 can hold it's own down low. And with some mods can be pretty quick. Now were not talking LS1s here, but they are good for what they are.
Personally (having owned one) I would steer clear of the LO3 TBI. The TPI produces much more low end torque.

Thanks for the reply Mario....its an Auto TPI. I just got away from $367.07 a month car payments and i can buy this car outright without dealing with payments and have extra money to mess with it alittle bit. So if it drives out well, im going to buy her. Thanks again.

Thumbs up

Congrats, I hope it works out for you. I'm sure you'll be happy with the LB9. There's plenty of things you can do to those things to increase performance.

hey, that motor should be ok, as long as there isnt a ton of miles on it. as long as the motor isnt tired, with a few free mods. that thing will take down 350's.
my good buddie mike snksknrz28 has a 88 iroc-z with the 305 LB9. and wow, im very impressed with it. now, with headers, borlas, free mods, ignition, etc, with no head work or anything else is taking down LT1'S. not bad for a 305 huh!.
