I got a crane cams cam kit. came with cam, lube, springs,retainers..but it doesn't come with oil shields. The piece that fits over and around the top of the valve spring. The one's that are on the engine now dont fit the new retainers.
So what do these oil shield do( other than what the name implies) ? And is it necessary? I would think that if it was Crane would of sent them...
Any insight would be greatly helpful

No you dont need them with new springs. They're just extra weight.
