I want to ask if your security light is on, but I can't remember if 1988 camaros had it or if it started in 1989. ( your thread says vats problem )

GTA got VATS in 88, 89 it went GM wide. are you using the same key and main module thats bolted on the back of the dash? if you have both of those then you have something else going on. check at the bottom of the coulmn where the wires come out to see if you have 2 very fine yellow, white, or orange wires on a 2 pin plug, iv seen GM use a diff color per year. if this lil plug is un done that could be a issue. like CARS3 said, does your security light come on? if so thats a VASTS sign.
