trick to change the FP regulator? TBI
trick to change the FP regulator? TBI
91 Firebird 305 TBI.
I'm trying to get the fuel pressure regulator back on. When I compress the spring, the rubber diaphram crinkles and moves.
Is there a trick to this? Special tool?
Thanks
Doug

Re: trick to change the FP regulator? TBI
There is no special tool that I know of, but did you happen to buy just a new fuel pressure regulator diaphragm or a whole rebuild kit? When you get TBI rebuild kits, they almost always come with 2 screws, usually about 1" long. They thread into 2 opposing FPR bolt threads, and allows the FPR and diaphragm to stay in place, while you press down on the whole FPR assembly and start the normal bolts. It's hard to describe.
But, assuming you don't have those screws, a couple of small picks, bolts, etc. (anything that will fit in the holes for the FPR bolts and threads though the fuel meter cover) should keep everything pretty much in place while you compress the spring and try to start the threads.
I can get you a picture of the extended bolts/screws that hold the FPR if you want in the morning. Let me know if you need it or not. Good luck.
