Transmission ?'s

How hard is it to swap out trannys? I am thinking of buying a rebuilt one and maybe putting it in myself. I would like to save the $400 in labor so how hard is it. Also where can I find some cheap rebuilt 700R4's?

cheap and 700-r4 does not go hand in hand whatsoever. best bet is to be lucky enough to find someone you know that has a working one that you can see before hand. that or really put trust in the seller which is often hard.

a nicely rebuilt syould run 8-1400 depending on what you do and that's not even putting it in the car for most cases. you might get lucky though i sold mine with torque converter for under 400 and it worked very well so they are out there.

as far as putting it in the car it isn't too hard. it helps greatly to have a lift though. doing it on your back in the driveway is a major pita.

One of them is built to stock specs, with just a rebuild kit, nothing special. I also have one that I was going to put in my car, but I wrecked it before I had a chance. Its from a 92 z28, it has borg-warner clutches, .500 boost valve, hardened pump rings, stiffer accumulator springs, shift kit, corvette servos, and I also have a nice torque converter to go with it.
