Transmission problem
Transmission problem
Well today on my way to work my transmission wouldn't shift. I have a 700R4 tranny that was rebuilt 3-4 years ago. I backed out of the driveway and when I put it in drive and got to around 10-15 mph. I was waiting for it to shift but the rpm's just kept climbing I pulled a u-turn then went back to my house. I didn't really get a chance to check it out since I was late for work. I just got home and wanted to know what the problem could be and what I should look for tommorow. the fluid level is fine.
When I was coming back to my driveway I put the car in nuetral and revved it up just to make sure I wasn't in second gear or something. My car was fine on Tuesday. I put a new thermostat in yesterday but didn't drive it so this happened out of the blue. I put a new filter/fluid in about 3 months ago and adjusted the tv cable about 2 weeks ago. Any help is appreciated.

Got my replacement governor gear in the mail today. So I took the governor assembly out and it is infact the governor gear. Like half of it is gone
Do I need to worry about the chunk missing? I don't see how be able to check around for it in such little space. Or do I just need to do a filter & fluid change and be done with it? And to get the gear off all I need to do is take that metal pin out and then I should be able to pull the gear off?

Push the new gear in, and then drill through it, using the holes in the governor as a guide. You'll need a .110" drill bit. Be careful to get the bit oriented so that you drill through the plastic gear, and connect the original holes in the governor, itself.
Sorry I didn't see this post earlier. Many times you have a "no upshift" in a 700, it's the governor. It would've helped if it were in the "Drivetrain" section.
