Well i kinda figured it was on its way out but now im sure she's toast..
1st gear is so damn tight though, i can burn out all day in it but when she shifts into 2nd and 3-so on it freakin slips man/ Anyways can u guys tell me what the best idea is for her...can i swap with a diff style tranny>? like a Th400/TH350?? i have a 84 z with the l69 motor with an od tranny....i think its 700r4....please help out

 

Why do you want a different tranny in it? What is wrong with just rebuilding the one you have?

 

Cost is allways an issue i have many other toys, and i just want my baby back on the road...I hate driving my 4runner

 

Don't give me angina. I just put lucas in my GTA and my wife's Mustang. I think I notice a good difference! Good luck with your tranny. Stick with the 700R4...

 

If you use a different tranny you will have to get a different DS and maybe fab a bracket or maybe not. Just rebuild what you have.,

 

Just how much does the TV cable play a role in shifting from 1-2-3
......will it make my tranny slip,thats all i needa know. Im assuming it doesnt or someone would have tould me 2 shutup already and fix it 1st....im i wrong in thinking this?

 

Heh, you are absolutely NOT wrong in thinking this. Your TV cable controls the actual shift points of the transmission, period. If misadjusted, it could cause your car to shift upwards of 3200rpm, as this happened to my buddy who has a LG4 and 700R4. It could lead you to think your tranny is toast and slipping, but in actuality it's shifting where it's supposed to as told by the TV cable. Get a manual and learn how to adjust it....it's extremely easy.

If your tranny is toast, I wouldn' go with a 350 or 400 since they have a very low first gear. Your 700 has I think a 3.08 first gear which gives you a great launch and acceleration. Not to mention, for the cost of a 350 or 400 swap, you could have a bullet proof 700R4 capable of handling over 600+ hp, shifting faster than you could think, and still have OD to give you relatively good gas mileage as opposed to the other two options. Check out Probuilt, Raptor, and Bowtie Overdrives. THey all sell 700's, and 350's and 400's if you really want to do those.

 

Thanks 4 all the help guys!! I just got a new trans "700r4" prac brand new and me and my bro will be installing it friday-this weekend/ ill keep you all posted on what happens:-) ill make sure 2 have tv cable adjusted prop on my new Trans....
