Question tpi setups mass air vs speed density

i am trying to get an idea of what i am going to do with my iroc. i know that i want a sbc, stock style suspension and to use fuel injection. I found a way to get around the rpm limitations of a tpi intake it is from John Milican at www.lt1intake.com. this is the way that i want to go but i have heard bad things about the mass air flow sensor and how others like the speed density system. my question is what am i going to do, convert mass air to speed density or keep mass air. if you suggest to keep mass air where can i get one. thanks for your help

I would go with speed density. I am changing mine over to speed density. On a engine over 350 RWHP you will pick up about 15 to 20 RWHP with a 4 inch inlet. There was just a article in GM High Tech performance. The MAF is a big restriction once your are over 350 RWHP.

The jury is still not out regarding this topic. ZZ17iroc changed from MAF to MAP and went slower, but the chip hasn't been tuned 100%. We hope to hit the dyno and tune the upper ve tables in a couple of weeks.

I'm still using the MAF. The maf meter itself is not the limitation, it's the 3" intake ducting before and after it. I'm using the wells maf which is supposed to flow 750 cfm. I'm getting a SD computer and harness to swap and see the gains if any between the two, but for now, speed density is more sensitive in changes in weather and in my opinion, harder to tune because of the ve tables.

do you think that an lt1 mass air flow sensor will work if i change the plug that goes into the sensor

What is needed:

1227730 ECM
Memcal
Knock Sensor
MAP sensor

Mike Davies has the whole set-up documented on his website very well easy to follow and all the information you need to get the job done! Anyone has his website address I am at work and don't have it here.

PS. You will also have to do some chip modifications, disable VATS, and MAG VSS.

FOUND IT http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28/

Repinning the ECM is not hard at all. Look at the ECM PinOut diagrams on Mike's site and follow it, not hard at all. Then all you have to do is run a couple wires from the MAP sensor into the ECM.

How much is the harness you are talking about??
