Re: Which timing chain and gear?

yea, there is a different gear for roller cams than flat-tappet cams. Your motor will be a flat-tappet, and the double roller that comes with the comp cams kit that you buy will match the flat tappet cam. It does come with both an upper and lower gear because it's a double roller (two narrow chains attached to each other).

When you say a 'performance' timing set, you have to think about belt drives (way out of your budget, I'm sure) but I don't think a gear drive will help you enough to warrent the extra $100ish that you will spend to get one.

Yes that is what you have. The ebay link I previously posted would work for your set up.

Don't thank me, thank the mbr. who operates this board, I just happened to stuble on your thread. Anything else you plan to do to the engine?

Well, for a Ford cam, you would use chain/gear set for Ford and same with Chevy. It is all the same. A GM roller cam is a GM roller cam.

Edit: go to summitracing and get the selection and choose what you need.

Re: Which timing chain and gear?

zrs: Do I plan on doing anything else to my engine? LOL.. ya. Headers, intake manny, carb, distributor, FULL-rebuild, wild cam, timing set, some kind of dual snorkel CAI, and a full exhaust. So ya, I LITTLE bit of work I guess
Aklim: This friend of mine said that I might need a "special timing set to go with my new cam". Even though I figured they would ALL be the same.
Rob: I already bought a $90 Cloyes set.. $29.00! Not bad, eh?

Call TPIS then. They will have a bunch of "special" anything you want for the "Oh So Special" price. If you have a chevy cam, you need a chevy timing set. Nothing special unless I am selling it. The Cloyes set you have will work just fine for you. The stretch is minimal.

Re: Which timing chain and gear?

Doesn't TPIS only deal with TPI cars? Like harnesses, intakes, and the like?

See what TPIS offers and go shop around for it cheaper elsewhere. Why not use their ideas which are free so far?
