Throttle stuck wide open
My throttle is stuck at pretty much wide open(3300rpm) as soon as i start it. if i put it into drive, it starts spinning tires, and won't go below 1500rpm. I can't drive it till i solve the problem cause if i'm coming down a hill i can't stop the car, and i live in morgantown west virginia, where theres nothing but hills.
You are going to need basic mechanical knowledge to diagnose this...
The first thing to check is the linkage between the two throttle bodies. I'm not sure if they are cable, or a combo of cable/mechanical linkage. Most of the time on TPI or TBI cars the throttle cable gets old and frayed inside, which causes them to hang. The other thing to check is the actual linkage to the TB's. If you don't understand what I'm trying to tell you then you better have someone who knows more about cars check it out.

My 86 did a similar thing. I could not drive it because putting it in gear meant spinning the tires madstyle. Anyway, looked and looked and I knew it had to do with the choke. Came to find out power was routed through the alternator wiring and all that to the choke. Bad regulator in the alternator was casuing the choke to stick in WOT or at least not come off fast idle. Swapped alternators and no more problem. Weird, but thats the way I fixed it. I don't know how much different the CFI cars are. Hope that helps!

"aahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!" -initial response to throttle stuck wide open
hehe that sucks, but for some reason i think i would derive some sick demented joy from having the tires rip *** when i put the car in drive hehehehe
