are they 26 or 28 spline?

i am going to buy an 89rs for parts, does it have 28 or 26 spline axles? i need 28 spline for my 87 IROC. I heard gm switched to 28 in 1990, but ive also heard they changed in 1988. Thanks for help.

The only way the 89 will have 28 spline is if it was late in the production year. Most of the 89's will have 26 spline.

For 89 I think the only real way to know is to pull it out and count.

If you have a BW 9-bolt rear you have 28 spline axle shafts.

The BW 9 bolt 28 spline axles are totally different than the 10 bolt axles so you wouldn't be able to interchange them.

It's just good knowing that the BW diff is stronger in other ways.

All 9-bolt axle shafts were 28 spline, and if you have 30 splines they are not STOCK or you mis-counted.
