im always reading articles about how putting a 160* thermostat in our cars is bad because it can affect the oxygen sensor, egr, and all that good stuff. my question is that is this a safe mod if you put a performance chip in as well as the thermostat? i was told that the chip also has an effect in the cooling system too.

 

I don't really see how a 'stat can harm the car. There's been one in my IROC for 12+ years now. Although it is possible that the car can get stuck in open loop (or is it closed loop) mode. Basically, it's the cars warmup mode.

Performance chips you can buy off the shelves are a waste of money. If you really want to go that route, have someone burn a custom one for you. You really won't need it on a stock car. If you plan on some decent mods, then go for it.
