Hahaha that's badass. I'm still trying to get my firebird up and running... Blew the motor a week or two ago, or I'd say I'd meet you somewhere and we could check out each other's ride.

Heh, I'm in love with your SS. There was a black '01 SS for sale up here, with all the SLP options... Damn did I want that car. I've got too much money sunk into the firebird to give up on it now though.

The oldies are sometimes the best to work with though. Their are times when my SS gives me headaches with all the computer **** lol. Before i got it tuned i Thought that swapping the cam made it slower lol. Stock tune and cam=****ty performance pulled like 10* of timing. But oh well im sure you will get that thing up and running. If you want a little help workin on it sometime shoot me a pm or an email. Im not the best mechanic in the world but sometimes with these things its nice to have someone to share the frustration with lol.

Yeah, thanks man. I'll probably take you up on that. It gets damn frustrating... I've stuck $3000 into the suspension of this car to stop it from pulling right. I kid you not. And I don't autoX...I don't care, at all, about suspension work and that's where ALL of my money has gone. And, amusingly enough, it STILL PULLS RIGHT!

Ah well, this is how projects go. I'll probably have $15,000 into it when all is said and done... but it'll probably be faster and stronger then the equivalent $15,000 car anyways. That's the hope/goal anyways

only prob with working on an older car is that they are most times soaked in oil lol. I dont have that problem with the ss thankfully!. But the berly is one greasy oily mess!

What kind of headers do you have on your berly? I'd love to see how the side pipes look/sound. I'm looking for a cheap way of setting up the 'birds exhaust so its loud but not loud enough I get pinched...

My thoughts were: 1 3/4" Hedman shorty headers, hedman Y pipe (or custom), QTEC electronic 3" cutout and then stock catback. Figured then I can be loud but quiet when I need to---though its pricey. If I could just run side pipes without peeling the paint or being too loud, that'd be awesome.

Know of anyone with quad slash-tipped exhaust tips? I need to replace mine, all rusted up.

Well as far as knowing what it sounds like havent gotten to fire it up yet with the true dual still have it on blocks. Planning on buttoning everything up this weekend. I have the dynomax headers but I was going for cheap and easy and an improvement over stock the SS is my whoop *** car But they arent too bad 1 5/8 primaries and 2 1/4 true dual all the way back to side bend just before the rear tires. Im planning on putting on a couple of hooker mufflers should really growl with the best of them then. 2 1/4 with the 1 5/8's primaries should be plenty for my 305. Hopefully it will give me the sound im looking for.

I do know this though the headmans will give you much better performance. I would run it to a y out the back to your catback if thats too loud you can always weld in a carsound or dynomax bullet that will quiet things down a little and clean up your exhaust tone. Thats what my buddy did to his 98 and really worked wonders. As far as true dual if you are looking for someone to try and fab it up in Wi GOOD LUCK! I tried probably 20-30 exhaust shops and i got shot down everytime. so i just ordered some pipe and a friend of mine works at an exhaust shop so i had him bend everything. Should be the hott setup lol!

another thought if you didnt want to try the cam swap would be some 1.6 full roller or just roller tip rocker arms. would give you less friction and the added lift would probably gain you a solid 10-15hp. you'd probably need new springs, but those aren't to expensive and would be a good idea anyway

Hey berly, could your buddy hook me up with a deal? I'd love to get my exhaust totally done up but when a shop'll charge me $300 to just install my headers and y pipe... I want a better option.

As far as the air filter/element goes, you'd see more HP gains (not a TON, but enough) with a snorkel-type element than an open one. The reason is that with the snorkel element (like the ones on 83-84 Z28's with the L69), you draw in outside air that is cooler. And we all know that cooler air is denser air, and can equate to more HP. With an open-air filter like an Edelbrock, you are basically sucking up the air around the engine bay, which is HOT! I think the open air filters do look better, but for performance like you want, spend an extra couple dollars and find the L69 element at a junkyard, or get the "Ram Air Box" for $100 (look in the ad section on Chevy mags)
