taking the steering column apart.

alright, i was wondering how the hell you take the ignition out of my 91 z28. do you have to taked the steering wheel out????? because i am getting no power to the start cable. any suggestions. and i also wanted to know, which wire is the coil wire. its a 91 z28, 305 tpi. is it the pink one with the white one coming out of it???? and which one is the tach wire??? is it the little white 20g wire??

all help is greatly appreciated

If You Get In The Column You'll Need A Compressor Tool To Put The Lock Plate Back In. Ive Broken 2 Of Them .

The top right has the coil and distributor wiring.

this isn't for a TPI but it should be close, let me know if it has different colors for the wiring back there.

If you want to replace the ignition switch, then yes, you'll have to pull the wheel. You will need a special puller to remove the steering wheel itself and then you'll need another tool as mentioned above, to depress the lock plate. My best suggestion would be to buy the Chilton's manual because it does a pretty good job of outlining the process. As for the tools, you can pick up both of them from Sears.
