Question t5 flywheel ?'s

for the t5 manual:

does anybody know the difference between the L03 and LB9/L98 flywheel. according to the dealer and all reference books i can find there is a difference between the 305 tbi and 305 tpi flywheel. everything i have checked says the two are different and are not interchangable. appearantly the only ones that are the same as the one i need for my LB9 is the one for the corvettes. after all my research the only thing i can figure is that the tbi was steel and the tpi was alum or something along those lines because the corvettes was appearantly alum. does anybody know of this? id rather not step down to a steel one if the proper one is not supposed to be.

please help clear this up!!!!

later,
Nick J

I know there were differences in model years, the '83-87 was different from the '88-'92's, but I'm not sure about the flywheels. I've never heard of any differences...
I know the GM engineers were raiding the Vette parts bins the first couple of years for the IROCS...The most famous part was the TPI system... and gave birth to the LB9/305 ..basically a TPI on an LG4..
I can't find my **** Swappers guide...maybe someone else will check theirs 'til I find it..

I used an 86 corvette flywheel on my 91 RS and it works great. I dont remember what it was made of ......but there was a huge difference in weight!!!! After putting it in, my car reved up much much faster, and had no vibrations. I dont no about the older tpi flywheels, but I hope the info I gave ya helps!

There are 2 part numbers for the 87+ F-body manual cars.

1 is the one listed for the L03 -- 14088650, it weights much more than the parts number, that comes up for the LB9 cars

the one listed for the LB9 is 14088446, it is also listed as a GMPP part # for the lightweight nodular 153 tooth flywheel, it is likely the one you want.

thanks for the help. i guess the only thing i can assume is that the tpi flywheel is a lightweight version compared the the tbi version. functionally the same but performance wise theres a difference. does that mean the corvette one is the same as the one that originally came with my LB9. and if so does anyone know which years in particular would be the same as mine (the one piece rear 87+ block).

thanks again,
Nick J

ok, i have no idea what dual mass means unless it weighs twice as much? and if they are not the same, or interchangable, then how did 79TTCAMARO use an 86 on his? please clarify a little better.
