T-56 swap into 85 camaro...

Hey everyone, i seem to have ran into a problem iv been debating swaping in a 6-speed into my car but then i realize that the speedometer is electronic and i have cable on mine....is there any way i can still use my cable and run the T56? i just hope i dont have to change my cluster or something....

yup. theres a device called the X-box that takes in the VSS signal and spins a cable the proper speed.

so you just hook the trans to the X-box, then the Xbox cable to your speedo. works like a charm.

if you do a search at www.thirdgen.org/techbb2 you'll find more info about the X-box... i have a 91, so i already had a electronic speedo... i just used the dekota digital SGI box...

The Cable-X he's referring to is made by Abbott Enterprises. I don't have any personal experience with it, but I hear it works fairly well.

When I swapped in my T56 I just went with an electronic Autometer speedo....it has the calibration equipment built in so all you have to do is hook it straight up to the VSS and do the calibration procedure (very very easy BTW.)

I want to keep the stock gauge cluster in the car tho. how much do those Box's run? maybe ill just lick my finger and stick it out the window...lol

Lists a conversion to manual. I don't think a machine shop would charge much to do that. Just a guess (and no motors to go bad).

no **** thats cool but i wouldnt do it myself. id probably rather go with the X box
