Looks like it will probably exit in front of the rear tires on each side of the car. I've seen similar setups and they sound good, but I don't know how that one would sound.

I don't know why it is 82 to 89 unless it is because of the dual cat. It says that pipes exit in front of the rear wheels. You might be able to just buy it without the headers and see where that takes you. That way you can buy your own headers. However, it does limit you to a 305 which makes me wonder about how good the headers are for high performance applications.

exits in FRONT of the rear wheels!? wow, I would LOVE that! I wonder how hard that would be to fab up. I have a 350, so I assume the pipes would need to be larger diameter? I have always loved the side exit style exhaust.

Yeah yeah, I'm blind at 4 am. Anyway, the reason it's limited to a 305 is because the headers and exhaust pipe are small diameter.

Chevrolet/Oldsmobile/Pontiac: 1982-89 305, Camaro/Firebird, 1978-87 Chevelle/El Camino/Malibu/Cutlass, 1 1/2 in. primary tubes, 2 1/2 in. collectors, painted, shorty headers
This Dynomax universal header dual exhaust kit uses 2 1/4 in. diameter tubing and includes all necessary clamps and hangers. This kit exits in front of the rear axle. It is compatible with Dynomax and Thrush turbo-style mufflers. Mufflers are not included.
Thrush Turbo, 2 1/4 in. offset inlet/center outlet, muffler
It will probably work fine for a 305, but since you have a bigger motor, that setup isn't going to cut it. I would get a nice set of long tube headers with 1 5/8" primaries and then go to a muffler shop and have them fab the rest. It'll be a little more expensive, but it will be able to handle alot more motor when the time comes.
