Power wise, you probably won't notice too much of a difference. Hey, every little bit helps. As for fuel consumption, I consistantly get an extra 1-2 mpg more than I did before, even with a heavy foot.

BTW, I was talking about distributor timing.

to the thread starter:
a bigger throttle body on a stock motor isnt gonna do jack but lighten up your wallet.

an aftermarket MAF is going to do alot either.

Thanx rice killer87! But someone said it would be cheaper to have the exhaust shop do the y-pipe for me, so I think I will just go that route
Mako350z28.. what will advancing the cam-timing do for you? I heard advancing it 6*, or 4* will give you low-end torque. How does that work?

Go for the exhaust. Get headers back and you will be happy. Other than prom programing that "mod" netted my the most power. You will probably be looking at 35 or so hp. Although depending on the exhaust you go with you will probably end up over the $500 mark, unless you buy used or know someone.

Here's what I found:

Advancing the camshaft (valve timing) 4-8° will give you more low and midrange torque but will limit your top end a bit more.

Retarding the valve timing will give more top end at the expense of low end torque. If you have a TPI car this won't do any good, since the LTR's limit the top end anyway.

EDIT: Retarding the valve timing is not recommended unless you are having problems with too much low end torque.

Thanx for the info So with a carbureted engine it wouldn't hurt to advance the cam-timing a bit for lower-end torque, right? And if you DO advance the cam timing, will you still get the benefits (Er.. CAN you still advance the dist.?) of advancing the dist.?

Only thing that you'd hurt by advancing the valve timing is you top end. How much depends on your engine setup and your cam.

Advancing the distributor (or in your case since your building the engine) setting the dist. for maximum efficiency will help any engine setup.

[QUOTE=85_305
And what the hell is it w/ 1.6 rockers? What does the 1.6 stand for, and why is that number so special?[/QUOTE]

Stock rockers are 1.5,or there abouts they'er not to accurate plus they tend to flex under load (stmped steel)so who knows what it's really reading. 1.6's will increase the lift on the valve in effect giving you a slightly bigger cam. Now don't rush out and buy some 1.6 rockers because you might have to do some head work to make them work, and that means pulling the heads. If your going to pull the heads do the cam,and then if you still want more lift go with the 1.6's at the same time. You could pick-up some ponies by replaceing you factory rockers with a set of 1.5 roller rockers and you wouldn't have to worry about head work.

IROC-T your saying that if I get 1.6 rockers (after looking into it) I could avoid the need of having machine work done to my heads??

But what does the 1.5 and 1.6 actually stand for?
