Sticking brakes
Sticking brakes
I had a problem with my front right brakes sticking and generating a lot of heat so I replaced the pads, hub/disc, bearings, and caliper. Now the problem is a little worse. Does anyone with more brake experience than me have an idea? Was I supposed to lubricate the piston bore of the caliper before installation or something? Or is it likely that I have developed some kind of clog in my brake lines?
Re: Sticking brakes
I had the same problem on my 92 z and I went ahead and replaced all four brake hoses. I had to order them because nobody had them in stock. I believe O'reillys gave me the best price. I did take my old ones with me and made sure they had ordered the right ones, because they have different applications for different brake systems. The new hoses fixed the problem. I was told the brake hoses break down on the inside after years of use.
Re: Sticking brakes
So are we just talking about the flexible hydrolic hoses connecting the steel line to the caliper or the whole line from the combination valve to the caliper? If its the latter, I think it will be hard finding a good place to get that from.
Re: Sticking brakes
It's just the rubber hose from the inner fenderwell to the caliper. Don't try to clean it out, once it starts to rot internally it will never stop.....the most you will do is patch the problem for a few weeks, unless you replace it.
There's a lot to be said for braided stainless hoses. They last longer, won't rub through if they get against something, and make a noticable difference in pedal feel. You can get the kit from Earl's for like $70 IIRC.

And if you do need the hard lines, try Classic Tube or Inline Tube. I just got a full set of SS hard lines for my car from Inline Tube - good stuff.
