TBI to Carb Question

I'm swapping from TBI to carb in an 88 Camaro. Can I use a dead-head regulator or do I have to use a bypass style. I know the article on thirdgen.org says to use a bypass style regulator, but I assumed that was for the high pressure TPI system. Thoughts?

Re: TBI to Carb Question

Your carb can not take more then about 6 to 7psi of fuel pressure. Any more than this and the floates will not be able to cut off the fuel flow into the carb.
Get a fuel pressure gage and check it.

Re: TBI to Carb Question

I will run anywhere between 6 and 7.5 psi of fuel pressure, but I need to know whether or not I have to use a bypass style regulator.

Re: TBI to Carb Question

A bypass regulator is always a good idea when using a high volume/pressure pump. If you dead head this pump you will probably burn up the pump, blow a fuel line, or blow the regualtor.

Re: TBI to Carb Question

Buy this guys Mallory 4309 regulator or get a new one. Aeromotive makes a Universal Bypass style regulator also. I've used the Mallory with great success.

Your TBI needs to be regulated DOWN to 5-7psi. I believe it's 10 or 14PSI stock and that will definately make the carb spit fuel everywhere/in and out of the engine.

Goodluck!
