Question Starting Problems!!

I just got a 89' IROC-Z 5.7L mint all stock except for 4.33 gears out back has 107,000 on it. Ive had it for 3 weeks now w/ no problems, but yesterday I drove it in the morn for 5min parked it, came back 4hrs later turned the key and NOTHING. It has all the power for lights radio and headlights but nothing happens when i turn the key. I have cleaned the batterie terminals and tryed jumping it(maybe not have enough juice), I also took out the starter and had it checked(could it be the key???). I have no idea what is causing it from starting as i am new to chevy (mostly old mopar guy) but i always wanted a IROC so now i have one but it stoped working!!!! Anyones ideas or imput would be a great help.

Re: Starting Problems!!

If I'm not mistaken, an '89 should have VATS. Does your ignition key have a small chip on it? My '89 RS suddenly stopped turning on---everything was fine, as in your situation. Ended up bypassing VATS. Thirdgen.org has an article on how to bypass it. I'd give it a try and see if it fixes the issue.

Re: Starting Problems!!

A dead cell in the battery will allow low amperage lights etc to work, but will NOT turn the starter...have it checked.
