Post Speed sensor question ( 90-92 700r4 )

Can anyone tell me if the speed sensor used in the 90-92 Camaros is a 40 pulse . I have a 700r4 that I am putting in my 95 and I dont want to swap out the speed sensor and reluctor if I dont have too . Somebody told me ALL gm autos used a a 40 tooth reluctor for the speed sensor , can anyone back that up for sure ???

Thanx

I am pretty sure they are diffrent from each other you will need to get an a power programer or lt1 edit or speedo recalibration box that is what i had to do when I put a 6 speed in mine but it was and auto. I could be wrong but I think they are diffrent

Whoever told you that is wrong. The 90-92 TPI's use a 4000 pulse speedo signal. I dont know about 93+ 4L60-E's, but I know the T56's use the 40 pulse signal. You will have to change the speedo stuff in the trans to have it work with your 95.

hey derek, hows it goin? this is chris, the one who got the front nose.

I have a 700r4 in my 95. you can swap the reluctor and sensor from a 95 lt1 car(4l60E) right in. no mods neccesary. but you do need the auto program in the pcm to go from stick to auto(so the pcm knows how many pulses equal 1 mi.) (the t56 has around 2 times as many teeth as the auto, my speedo would be pegged when i was on the freeway till i got my pcm programed). dont you already have a 700r4 in there though?

Re: Speed sensor question ( 90-92 700r4 )

Check out GM part number 24202711. My Chevy parts guy says the application is listed for Camaros, pickup trucks, GTO's, and many more. It is a 40 tooth reluctor. I don't know if this application is specific to your vehicle, but the parts guy can look it up for you! Hope this helps some!

40 tooth means 40 pulses per transmission output shaft revolution, which means your total pulse output increases as speed increases, thus giving your ECM increased input as speed increases, which is what you want.
