speed sensor question

ok, my friend just bought a 90 iroc with a 350 tpi, and we all know those only came with a 700r4, well his is converted over to a 5spd from a 305. but here's the catch, the tranny is from an 87, and his speedo doesnt work, was that year cable driven or is it electronic? is there a conversion kit or any remedy to the problem he is having?

Re: speed sensor question

the 86+ Firebirds and 90+ Camaros were electronic.
Was the tranny from a bird or camaro?

Re: speed sensor question

his T5 is mech, so he'll need an electric sender, I believe they just swap out.
there is a mech to elec. converter, but it is about $300, not worth it since it should be easy to locate the correct sender.

Re: speed sensor question

If it is from a bird, the sender is electric and the sender should still be on the car (could have been swapped to a mech at one time, just look and see if there is an electrical connector attached to a round unit on the side of the trans)
, if it's still there, it's just a matter of plugging it in.
this is what it looks like,

I've got one I'll sell for $55 shipped. It has the gear for a 3.23 rear end.

Re: speed sensor question

I thought the T5 wasn't strong enough to stand up the torque from a 350.
