how can you say taking off the egr can have no positive effect. Does it not put leftover exhaust gasses back through your intake??? That was my impression at least. Although i do agree that its not worth the hassle of takeing it off for any benefit it may or may not have.

that makes sense then. Ya learn something new every day but i guess when youre born with the smarts of someone who is CONVINCED he can lick his elbow its hard not to learn something new every day....btw im quite tired and that seemed funny at 2 am.
Yes if you take off your EGR you will get a SES light...the canister by the fender has nothing to do with EGR, it is a carbon canister that traps excessive gas vapor and then puts it back in the fuel system for better cold starting, and it keeps raw fuel from being put right out into the atmosphere...It has no bearing on Horsepower, if you remove it you will have no gain...If you remove EGR it will not give you ANY horsepower whatso ever, so you're better off just leaving it...A.I.R. sucks...it's just weight and rotating mass, and doesn't work for **** on emissions, so if your state doesn't look for it (like the guy above who removed it and passed) I'd go for it...If they check for it then it's no good.
This carbon canister, it is another thing under my hood that makes it look more cluttered than it is already. My question is this...Can i take it off without it having a major effect? If i take it off what will happen to my car. im just trying to clear out that engine bay and get my built 350 a nice home in there

Some places check fuel systems also and then it would fail...But that's extremely rare and I think you'd be fine if you removed it...BUT I'm not sure...I'd probably leave it myself but I would probably relocate it if it bothered me...I relocated one on a Grand National not long ago and it's probably easier then removing it, because you'd have to reroute some vapor lines and stuff.
removal of vapor can
thanks for the help but im pretty stuck on taking it out so what would i have to do with the vacum and vapor lines after i take it out? trace em to where they go and cap them? im trying to rid my car of vacum all together.

I wouldn't take the vapor canister off, because it provides a vent for the fuel tank. Without it, pressure will build in the tank (particularly in a TPI setup, with fuel being recirculated to the tank all the time). This, in turn, will cause erratic fuel pressure, that the fuel rail may not be able to compensate for.
Ask me how I know.
My best suggestion is to dress all the vac lines tight together, and then wrap them with a rubber wrap or wire wrap (that accordian looking plastic stuff- why can't I think of the name). That will make it look more presentable, at least.

I took all the emissions stuff off my car. Cat, EGR,computer, etc. everything. I got it smog tested and it was so bad that it broke the test machine. Turned a 4 gas analyzer into a 1 gas analyzer. And to top it all off I just moved to california with this car.
I need to get mine smoggable by next month.
