right cooling fan always on.
Hi all. I was driving home and the volt gage started going down to like 10 vlts. thought ok the alt finally died. got it home and took the alt off and to the local parts store. Had em test it and it was OK??? SO then I checked all conections and checked the two top wires for pos charge (yes used a bulb when checking the brown one) all lit the bulb bright. I did notice when I turned on the ign (to check the brown wire) that the right cooling fan went on, now always goes on when ign is on??? Acording to the wiring diagram (primitive pic at best) the relays for the fans are inline to the alt brown wire.
so where in the world is the relay for the right cooling fan?????

Dan,
I need more info before I can help. I need to make sure, when you say "right", do you mean the passenger side? Also, what year is your car? The dual fan schematic for 1987 was different that succeeding years.

....i had to pay 50 bucks for a temp sensor so my fan would always be on.
If you want your fan on continuously, you don't need a sensor. All you needed to do on the primary fan (driver's side) was to splice into the green/white wire at the fan relay and ground the other end of the wire. On the secondary fan, splice into the green/white or gray (depending on year) and ground that wire.
Have you see my articles at TGO on this very subject?

My fans are always on due to fact of the car was over heating. We wired the fans directly in to the battery so when I turn the key they turn on.
as for my gage on my Volt metter it some times dropps low & bounces back up (some times stays low for a 100 miles are so & I can always start the car back up.

Right side of the car (fan) is always pass side in the car biz,,,,so yep right side (pass) fan... Oh yea its an 89 gta, orig 350 car. Lotsa mods but none really to the electrical system except I took the pos cable that went to the charcol canister (deleted) and hooked it to the E water pump. Neg on the w/p is going to the branch off of the batt. I dont think thats what caused the fan to stay on but I gues tommorow I could disconnect it to see if it stops the fan. The alt is either not working at all or the voltage gage is being effected. Its like at 8-10 volts all the time, no bouncing or movement except the more lights on ect the lower it gets. Strangley enough except for the gage that is now low it starts and runs fine, really though it never was this low before. I drove it for like a month after the E pump mod with no probs. With the E pump Im always at like 180ish so I would not need the fan to be on all the time anyway.
thanks for the help, this is really driving me nutz I got one more race on the 11th at auto city then she's getting mothballed for the rest of the winter.
