Removing Shifter assembly

I am waiting on my shifter assembly to arrive, but wanted to get an idea if it is easy to remove.

If anyone has done it what kind of things should I look out for and what is the general advice. Do I have to get under the car to replace shifter assemblies or can everything be done under the trim panel that goes over the shifter?

I just got done putting a mega shifter in. replacing the shifter is easy other than hand tools you will need a drill. The only time you need to get under the car is to replace the shifter cable and install the new brackets if going to a ratchet shifter. Hope this helps

I am only replacing it with a stock unit so no need to get under the car as I will be using the same cable. Some a while ago told me I will have to disconnect the transmision cable and I could not work out why.

Why do I need a drill for?
