Rear tires are both wearing on the inside
Has anyone ever had their rear tires both wear out on the insides??
I have had some friends tell me that the rearend housing could be bent somehow, but I guess that I am looking for some other possibilities. If it is bent can it be fixed or would it be cheaper to buy a new rearend??
Thanks,
Ben

well, when you say inside, do you mean the middle of the tire or the part closest to the rear end housing? if it is the middle of the tire, check pressures, if it is the part towards the inside of the car, could be a few things i suppose, but bent axles/axle tubes could be
I bought the rear end used and the only thing I had to do to it was install my brake brakets, and slide the axles in. I also changed the seals while I was at it. Anyway I have had the car 100mph+ so I don't think its a bent axle, because I'm sure I would have felt some type of vibration, or something would have come apart, especially at 5500rpms. However, I do have 5/16" wheel spacers on the back. I had to install them to clear the frame for my 275/50 15's. Could the wheel spacers be the problem?
If it were spacers or axles or anything that rotates then you would feel a MAJOR vibration in the rear of the car when moving. However, if you have a bent axle TUBE you wouldn't notice any vibes and you'd get the uneven wear. Did the rear come out of a wrecked car? Hitting a curb or other obstruction at speed can bend the axle tubes where they meet the diff housing. That's what I'd suspect.
If the housing is bent, your best bet would be to pick up a cheap rear, even one with blown gears, and put your gears/carrier/brakes/axles in it. You can find good housings for next to nothing...in fact I have a '91 10-bolt sitting in my storage building waiting for the first guy with $30 to come and pick it up. It's no use to me since I swapped in a 9-bolt.....

Well, the rearend is a 8.5 out of a 1987 Grand National. There is what I thought to be minor damage to one of the brackets on the passenger side where the shock mount and is bent a little. If I were to find a 8.5 rearend with open axles would I still be able to transfer my posi unit to a rearend that originally had open axles? Posi GN rearends are very expensive, however I have seen some 8.5 rearends that have open axles that are pretty cheap.
