you can do it, but youll have to do some modifications on your fuel system among other things.

Re: question about t.p.i

carbs work alright on a drag car i guess. but i would personally prefer injection even in drag racing.

if the car is already setup with the tpi injection i dont see any reason to stick a carb on it. put a better intake on the thing and let a good tuner have it for a day.

Re: question about t.p.i

there is nothing wrong with carbs, but i agree if you drive it everyday or have more than 2 season you dont want a carb. The mileage is better and maint. is lower. You can get just as much power with injection nowdays as you can with a carb the only downside is $$. Injection is ALWAYS more (unless you get used stuff but that doesn't count) and then tuning. Some programs allow the more experienced users to tune the cars themselves, whereas carbs are pretty simple, fatter or leaner, the plugs tell the story. With all the sensors in these cars now, there are other variables that come in to play but I believe that if i were to build another car i would do injection. Just because its so popular and its everywhere. Plus I like the fact that i can build an entire car myself, and TUNE it myself is why i chose carb'd. One day I would like to learn the in's and out's of FI, and Im sure I will sooner or later. There are injections systems such as FAST i believe it is? Which allows you to tune the car yourself, but the system is also boo-koo $$. So it all has its plus's and minus's... Thats just my opinion.

do a little research on t.p.i. systems, maybe get a book, you'll appreciate it far more than carb's

Re: question about t.p.i

Do a search on the topic here and over at thirdgen.org It's discussed in detail with pics. I personally did a TPI 305 and went to a Holley 600/Performer intake. Worked like a charm with the out of the box jetting. I ran stock timing, did a Mallory 3 port plumbed into the factory fuel lines, wired the fuel pump to the ignition so it came on when the key was turned on, etc. All guages still worked. Also had to wire the torque converter lockup to a manual switch because the computer actually DOES control that. A Manual switch can be done obviously or you can get a setup from Painless for carb cars using a 700R4 trans. Goodluck!

Re: question about t.p.i

I had big TPI problems. Replaced every sensor, ran every diagnostic possible, tried multiple ecms, tracked wiring and finally gave up. Just to get the car running again I went and grabbed all of the carb stuff and it was running perfect again in a day. Months of trying to fix a TPI problem solved by a few hundred bucks and an afternoon. Then I switched the nitrous kit to a carb version and ran 12.80's on spray, 15.60's on motor. Best ET with the TPI was also 15.60's.
