Question question about posi unit

ok some guy offered me a 9 bolt rear end with a 3:27 gear and he said the posi is broke! right now i have a 9 bolt with a 2:77 gear! and the posi works fine, so my question is would i be able to take the posi out of my original and stick it in the new rear end with the 3:27 or would need a whole new posi unit???

Thanks to all who reply!!

GM carrier/ratio are as follows:

3.08 and numerically lower are Series II

3.23 and numerically higher are Series III

Gears are not interchangeable from one series to the other, unless they are aftermarket ones designed for a particular series of carrier.
