Looking at an '86. Few ?'s...
It's an '86 Camaro with 305 (carb), T-tops , auto. and 37k miles. What should I look for problem-wise? What kind of gas milage can I expect? I'm looking at using this car as my daily driver. Thanks!

well first off. The 3rd gen odometer only goes to 99,000 I think so I would be weary of the car actually having 137,000 miles on it. And is it a stock like H.O. set-up with a carb on it or is it an aftermarket carb set up?

Mileage:
I used to get around 15-18 mpg with the quadrajet.
Areas to check:
Bushings, Belts, and stop bumpers (in other words, all rubber that can rot simply with age.) Condition of the rear end (pull off cover and look at metal shavings on magnet)
Good Luck
edit: Check your vac lines too.

That's not the stock gauge. The ONLY speedo available in 85 was the 85mph speedo. The stock 140mph speedos from later years had numbers in 10mph increments and lines in 5mph increments. I've only seen one like yours a couple times, and I believe it's an aftermarket unit that was available in the early 80s.

gas milage.. i know my 305 tpi was crap. and IMHO.. get a 87-90 camaro.. as much as i LOVE my 86 iroc.. this thing had SO many problems.. and every 86 owner i talk to as had the same things go wrong.. but the 86-90 guys dont ahve nearly as many issues as i do.

My 86 Sport Coupe got about 17 to 18 mpg around town when it was stock. Now that I've hopped it up like crazy it STILL gets 16 mpg but has TWICE the hp

There aren't really any problem areas that set the 86 Camaro apart from other years. They made a change in the 700r4 tranny in 87 that eliminated a small clunk sound when you put it in gear but that's about it. Since it is carbed, it is about as simple as an engine gets from that era.
